Aussie scientists find coconut-carrying octopus There are videos too
This is my favorite thing in animal news since a spicies octopus was discovered to mimic other sea creature's apearance AND behavior.
For those of you who don't know why this is so cool (besides my love of cepholapods); There aren't very many animals that use tools. It's a very special evolution of the brain. Humans do it, some Great Apes do it, in rare cases Crows have beenknown to do it. And debatibly some pods of Dolphines have taught each other to use tools (using rocks to smash open shelled creatures and then only eating only the best tasting parts). And now some octopi.
Don't look at me like that. I find it all very fascinating! |
